Pentlands Open Studios is excited to invite you to our next community arts event. It will be an evening of creativity, storytelling, and laughter. Join us for PechaKucha style fun!
We are committed to bringing accessible arts experiences to the local community. This event is free to ensure everyone can take part.

What’s Happening
We have been invited to kick-off the Pentlands Book Festival 2025 with our artists speaking event. The PBF is a like-minded organisation committed to:
… bring artists and audiences together in a sympathetic space, and to create a feeling of community via a shared love of literature and the arts.

Join us for a night of quickfire inspiration. Artists from the Pentlands Open Studios Art Trail will share their stories, processes, and ideas. They will do this in the dynamic PechaKucha 20×20 format. That’s 20 images, 20 seconds each, and 400 seconds of creativity per talk!
Hear from:
- Gary Anderson
- Pen Reid
- Gill Walton
— as they reveal what goes on behind their canvases and sketchbooks.

Plus, John Elliott will share the roller-coaster experience. He launched the very first Pentlands Open Studios Art Trail (POSt 2025). This was created from scratch in just six months!
What Is PechaKucha?
PechaKucha (Japanese for “chit-chat”) was born in Tokyo in 2003, created by architects Astrid Klein and Mark Dytham. The format’s fast, fun, and visually rich — perfect for artists with big ideas and audiences with curious minds.
Expect a lively mix of culture, comedy, and community. Each speaker gets just over six minutes to tell their story. This is followed by questions and open conversation.

Venue & Tickets
The Baberton Golf Club (55 Baberton Avenue, EH14 5DU) will host the event. The bar will be open throughout the evening and afterwards, so you can chat informally with the artists and neighbours.
🎟 Tickets are free but essential to help us manage venue capacity. Grab yours now from Colinton or Currie libraries, or book online before they disappear!
