Jade Stout

Jade Stout is an award-winning painter whose practice is rooted in close observation of coastal environments, particularly those shaped by Orkney. Her work explores interruption, rhythm and pause within landscape, using horizon lines as both compositional structure and metaphor. These horizons suggest moments of stillness, disruption and continuity, reflecting emotional and lived experience as much as place.

Working primarily with acrylic and mixed media, Stout builds layered surfaces through repeated acts of painting, erasure and reworking. Marks are added, removed and revisited, allowing earlier decisions to remain visible and become part of the final image. This process-led approach embraces uncertainty and change, echoing the shifting nature of coastal environments.

She was educated at Edinburgh College of Art, completing both undergraduate and postgraduate study in Painting. Her work has been exhibited widely across Scotland and the UK, and in 2025 she received the Discerning Eye Outstanding Scottish Entry award. Jade Stout is a professional member of Visual Arts Scotland.
