Martha’s practice explores how everyday imagery can be reduced to its most essential forms. She is fascinated by transforming the visual complexity of the world into bold, simplified silhouettes that retain clarity and character. Central to this process is the relationship between positive and negative space, which has shaped her distinctive “cut-out” style.
Drawing sits at the heart of Martha’s practice. Through close observation and repeated sketches, she gradually refine subjects into strong graphic shapes. These shapes are then broken into parts and reassembled into new compositions until a dynamic balance emerges.
The materials she uses vary depending on scale and context, ranging from laser-cut pieces to forms cut by hand. She works across wood, card, metal, and plastic, while always maintaining the immediacy of the original drawing.
By isolating familiar subjects; people, plants, and everyday moments. Martha invites viewers to see them differently and rediscover their quiet beauty.
