This is the social media guide for artists participating in POSt Art Trail 2025.
Social Media is an essential tool for free marketing. It can be an amazing way for you to engage with other artists. It also helps in promoting your own work.
Instagram is a favourite of many Artists. If you don’t already have an account, set one up. Alternatively, ask a savvy friend or relative to do this for you.
POSt only has an Instagram account currently: @pentlandsopenstudios. We have around 500 followers at the time of writing.
When posting leading up to the Art Trail 2025, please:
- Use our hashtag: #POStudios2025. This will help others easily find all posts relating to the Art Trail.
- Benefit from our followers seeing your posts by adding our account as a collaborator to your posts.
- Use these graphics provided to re-enforce our brand on Instagram. These are sized exactly to Instagram requirements. Please use these in your Instagram posts and stories.
- Share, like and comment on other relevant posts.
Tips for improving your Instagram
Below are just a few helpful tips to making your Instagram profile more professional and increasing your followers.
- Consider having a separate account solely for your work and daily artistic practice to your everyday social activities.
- Treat your Instagram profile as an online portfolio of you and your work. Be aware of how your posts look together.
- Post an image at least twice a week as this will increase followers and keep people interested in your work.
- Post images of work in progress. Share your studio practice. People like to see finished works of art. They also enjoy seeing an artist’s process.
- Tag other relevant users in your posts. For example, if you post prep work on your open studio for the POSt Art Trail, tag us in the image. Use our profile name @pentlandsopenstudios.
- A formula for hastags might be: event + location + subject. This might result in the following hashtags for your post: #postudios2025 #openstudiso #edinburgh #junipergreen #oilpainting #drawing
- Use Stories to visually post thoughts and interests such as things you find inspiring. Note, stories only remain visible for 24 hours.
- Try to comment on other people’s posts. Also, like them. This can increase your following. It is also great for networking with local creatives.
- Make sure you respond to people commenting on your own posts. This shows that you value their input. It also indicates you are available to talk further about your work if need be.
